Practice Update 13 July 2020

Sunday, July 12, 2020

Following the last update, I'm happy to report that we are continuing to see all of you that have needed emergency dental care very quickly. Thank you for your co-operation in making this possible.

However, there are still some types of treatment we are not able to carry out on the premises due to Scottish Government restrictions. Therefore we are referring patients that require it to dental hubs within the Paisley and Glasgow area.

Although the First Minister has recently announced that 'routine dental care' is now available, that is not strictly true. One of the main limitations at present is that we cannot carry out any 'Aerosol Generating Procedures' (AGPs) under the NHS.

Examples of AGPs include:

  • the 3-in-1 syringe; the water/air 'puffer' that we use when examining your mouth and for washing/drying your teeth during a filling
  • the high speed drill with water spray
  • the ultrasonic scaler; used when 'scaling and polishing'

Your safety is our Number 1 priority. Our team continue to work to a new set of guidelines we have put in place to ensure your safe care. I am also looking at advanced Personal Protective Equipment that would allow us to carry out AGPs at the practice.

Meantime, changes you will notice include:

  • triaging your phone call to ensure effective use of the limited appointments
    • the receptionist/dentist will ask Covid-19 related and clinical questions
    • PLEASE DO NOT JUST TURN UP FOR AN APPOINTMENT  AS THE DOOR WILL BE LOCKED. YOU MUST PHONE IN ADVANCE
  • staggering appointments to ensure social distancing and extra time to allow even more rigorous cleaning of communal areas between patients eg seats, doors etc. The clinical areas, as always, continue to have the highest levels of infection control so rest assured!
  • asking you to arrive wearing a face-covering and waiting in your car until called for
  • hand sanitation for you on entry and exit
  • payment by card, preferably contactless, if possible

Please continue to bear with us. Remember, all the measures we have put in place are to help you receive your care as safely and quickly as possible. Contact us on 0141-889 2016 and, as always, we are ready to help.
