August appointments and general update

Wednesday, August 05, 2020

We have cancelled all scheduled appointments for August. You should have received a text or letter to inform you of this. If you have not, please assume your scheduled appointment for August has been cancelled or contact us for further information.

Following the last update, we are starting to open the practice up gradually as we emerge slowly out of the COVID-19 lockdown. We are also streamlining our system and are able to see more of you with any problems within a day or so. Thanks again for your co-operation in making this possible.

Safety is our Number 1 priorityWe are now sourcing enhanced PPE which will allow us to undertake a limited number of 'Aerosol Generating Procedures' (AGPs) as we move into the next phase. However, this will also mean that we have to leave the surgery empty, possibly for an hour or more, after the appointment. This will obviously impact on how many patients we will be able to see and what we are able to do.

Examples of AGPs include:

  • the 3-in-1 syringe; the water/air 'puffer' that we use when examining your mouth and for washing/drying your teeth during a filling
  • the high speed drill with water spray
  • the ultrasonic scaler; used when 'scaling and polishing'

Meantime, changes you will notice include:

  • triaging your phone call to ensure effective use of the limited appointments
    • the receptionist/dentist will ask Covid-19 related and clinical questions
    • PLEASE DO NOT JUST TURN UP FOR AN APPOINTMENT  AS THE DOOR WILL BE LOCKED. YOU MUST PHONE IN ADVANCE
  • staggering appointments to ensure social distancing and extra time to allow even more rigorous cleaning of communal areas between patients eg seats, doors etc. The clinical areas, as always, continue to have the highest levels of infection control so rest assured!
  • asking you to arrive wearing a face-covering and waiting in your car until called for
  • hand sanitation for you on entry and exit
  • payment by card, preferably contactless, if possible

Please continue to bear with us. Remember, all the measures we have put in place are to help you receive your care as safely and quickly as possible. Contact us on 0141-889 2016 and, as always, we are ready to help.
