Mr. Abdul Haleem

Dentist

GDC: 65378 - BDS MGDS RCPS (Glasgow) Mr. Abdul Haleem

Abdul graduated from Glasgow University in 1990 and in 1996 he was one of the youngest dentists ever to achieve the MGDS postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow.

Abdul joined the practice in 1991 and, after a brief period in the mid-1990s when he worked in two other Glasgow practices, returned to become a partner in 1997. Since then he has overseen major changes and expansion at the practice which has increased its capacity from a team of 5 to its current complement of 19.

Since 1998 he has continued to be extensively and closely involved with training and mentoring of recently qualified dentists.

His experience also includes a period as an Honorary Clinical Teacher of undergraduate dental students from 1991-1998 at the Glasgow Dental School. In 2001, Abdul became the youngest Dental Practice Advisor in Scotland for what is now NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. Abdul is still involved in this post and visits and advises other dental practices on current guidelines and recommendations, and helps NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board to develop better links and services with the local population.

He also mentors and advises other dentists who are struggling with their clinical work or running their practices.

Abdul was honoured to be nominated for, and now acts as, the Chair of the National Dental Advisory Committee which is an advisory group comprising of the Chief Dental Officer, the Deans (Heads) of the Scottish Dental Schools, Education Chiefs and others that reports directly to the Minister for Health at Scottish Government.

He is also Chair of the Scottish Dental Vocational Training Committee which is responsible for the development, organisation and co-ordination of dental vocational training and general professional training in Scotland.

He is also a current member of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Local Dental Committee.

Between 1998 and 2000, Abdul undertook orthodontic training at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and since then has developed a special interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry including the use of tooth-coloured fillings and porcelain veneers and crowns; all of which are involved in "smile makeovers" and "smile design".

Abdul is also using Inman Aligner and Six Month Smiles technology to help straighten front teeth in as little as 6 weeks as part of "smile makeovers".

Abdul has also undertaken further postgraduate training in the exciting field of dental implantology and has been mentored by prominent national figures with whom he retains close links.

This innovative technique can help replace missing teeth by using titanium "roots" supporting natural looking crowns and bridges to bring back your smile and chewing power to improve overall confidence.

Being the "oldie" in the practice, he has enjoyed looking after some of his patients for over 20 years and is happy to see new patients who are looking for an excellent level of care and attention.

Mr. Simon Kidd

Dentist

GDC: 114009 - BDS MJDF RCS (Eng) LLM Mr. Simon Kidd

Simon is our longest standing Associate Dental Surgeon, having joined the practice in 2007 after qualifying from the University of Glasgow. After a year being mentored at Complete Dentistry, he gladly accepted the offer of a permanent position at the practice.

In 2010 he gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons after having attained a further joint qualification from the Faculty of Dental Surgeons and the Faculty of General Dental Practice. In 2019, Simon gained a Masters degree in Healthcare Law and Ethics from the University of Dundee and now works part time as a Dento-legal Adviser for a UK-wide medical indemnity organisation.

Simon is one of our providers of ‘Conscious Sedation’. Throughout his time at the practice he has helped hundreds of ‘Dental Phobics’ achieve oral health via the experienced provision of sedation. This type of sedation allows patients to float calmly and safely through the types of dental treatments they might otherwise have avoided.

Another of Simon’s focuses within the practice is with the provision of cosmetic dentistry: "Whether it be the complex realignment of crooked teeth using the innovative ‘Quick Straight Teeth’ short term orthodontic system, or something as straight-forward as replacing dark fillings with tooth coloured alternatives, I always find the reward comes when the patient returns in 6 months with a beaming smile… actually happy to see their Dentist and show me how well they are doing".

As well as being a full time Dentist at the Practice, Simon also serves as an elected member and office bearer of the Greater Glasgow Local Dental Committee. This group of like-minded professionals serve to support Dentists in our local area and liaise with the governing bodies of the NHS. This helps to ensure that the needs of our own patients are represented on multiple fronts.

When Simon isn’t here calming the anxieties of our patients, he can often be found putting his own nerves to the test. Now a qualified free-fall skydiver, one of his favourite pastimes is jumping out of airplanes!

Most importantly though, the main focus of Simon’s practice is and always will be to provide the highest level of care to his loyal patients and their families, ensuring their continued oral health: "When I first joined the practice I was amazed by how loyal patients were to my predecessor. Generations of the same families had been coming for decades and I couldn’t believe that a modern and innovative practice could have such a deep rooted clientele. I had big boots to fill and am really touched that they have all stuck with me over the years and shown me the same loyalty".

Mr. Ian Cumming

Dentist

GDC: 191060 - BDS MJDF RCS (Eng) DipConSed DipRestDent Mr. Ian Cumming

Ian qualified from Glasgow Dental School in 2010 and spent the subsequent year with us at Complete Dentistry before gaining further experience in practices across Glasgow and the West of Scotland. He returned to Complete Dentistry in 2015.

Ian is committed to further education and training to help in the care of his patients. He gained the MJDF diploma at The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2012, the Postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation from Newcastle University in 2015, considered to be the gold standard in sedation training in the UK, and a Diploma in Restorative Dentistry from University of Chester in 2019. The experience and skills gained from this Diploma allows Ian to assess and treat patients with more complex treatment needs.

In addition to this, he has also completed further training in Botox and dermal fillers, short term orthodontics, smile design and tooth whitening. The experience and skills gained from these courses allows Ian to provide the highest quality treatment options for his patients, helping them achieve the smiles they have always desired.

Outside of dentistry Ian can be seen running about after his two young children and, when he can, enjoys running about some more on the football pitch for his local Sunday league team.

Mr. David Comerford

Dentist

GDC: 264045 - BDS MJDF RCS (Eng) PG Cert EndodonticsMr. David Comerford

David completed a successful year at Complete dentistry in 2016-2017 on a temporary post and then worked in another dental practice in Glasgow before returning to Complete Dentistry in January 2019. He has thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with staff, rejoining the team and caring for the patients within the practice again.

Since graduating from the University of Dundee in 2016, David has been committed to furthering his education.

He completed his MJDF diploma with the Royal College Surgeons of England in 2018. He has a particular interest in Root Canal treatment and is currently progressing through an Endodontic post graduate qualification with the University of Chester having achieved the Diploma at the end of 2020. The qualification involved both written and practical exams, many late nights of studying as well as racking up the miles by travelling down to the University periodically.

Endodontics, normally called 'Root Canal Treatment', is a complex and technically demanding process that alleviates extreme toothache by removing the damaged, inflamed and possibly infected contents of a tooth and then thoroughly cleaning, disinfecting and filling it. By doing this you get to keep your tooth rather than having it extracted!

David is focused on providing high quality dental care. David aims to ensure all his patients needs are listened to and that clinical decisions are discussed and made together so that his patients are fully informed of their options available.

Outside of dentistry he enjoys staying active and regularly plays squash and golf.
